How to Take Care of Your Kidneys

Kidneys are important in the body because it clears toxins. If our kidney fails, we will not survive long.  Here in Singapore, there was a study conducted at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) in 2011. According to the study, 24 Singaporeans patients who needed dialysis declined dialysis because they cannot afford it or their family said no. We all know that if dialysis is not considered, the patient will surely die sooner than expected.

If the kidney is dysfunctional, it is crucial that you consider dialysis. Dialysis will serve as your synthetic kidney that can get rid of toxins. If you are young with healthy kidneys, it is important that you know how to take care of it. The first thing that you need to do is determine that things that can harm your kidney. You should know that being obese will compromise the kidney. Consumption of artificial sweeteners, sodas, candies, fluoride and many more can also compromise your kidney.

Now that you know the things that can harm your kidney, the next thing that you need to do is learn how to take care of your kidneys. Here are some tips that you can consider:


  • Healthy eating: Experts will tell you to get rid of unhealthy eating like chips, sodas and many more. You should always bear in mind that nothing can go wrong if you practice and observe healthy eating. You have to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
  • Exercise: Exercise can also reduce your risk of acquiring kidney related illness. Regardless of your disease, you have to establish an efficient protection or guard. Exercise will serve as your best protection or guard against unwanted illness.
  • Hydrate: You know that you heavily rely on sodas and other salty foods. If you cannot stop it, you should at least hydrate. You need to drink a lot of water so your kidneys will not be overwhelmed with toxins. If you can stop drinking sodas and eating salty foods, do that before it is too late.
  • Do not smoke and drink: Smoking and drinking can damage your kidneys. You have to remember that it does not only affect the lungs (for smokers) and liver (for drinkers). The activities that you do can influence your kidneys at the end of the day.

If you think that something is wrong with your body, you have to go immediately to your doctor and submit to series of tests. If it is found out that you have problematic kidneys, be thankful because it is diagnosed and detected early. You will not suffer its severity because at the onset you did your best to stop or curb it.
