Why Is Epi LASIK Is Better Than LASIK

Epi-LASIK is a Singapore eye surgery that treats the same eye ailments as LASIK. Both procedures cure astigmatism, far-sightedness (hyperopia) and nearsightedness (myopia). Why Epi-LASIK is better than lasik is because in fact the modified method of Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), the first refractive procedure that paved way for the development of few more laser surgical refractive procedures. Epi-Lasik is also known to be a safer procedure than LASIK. Though complications of the flap of the eyes made by LASIK procedure in Singapore is relatively low, it can cause results that are less than ideal or worst, permanent vision loss. With Epi-LASIK procedure, the epithelial flap can fully regenerate and, at the same time, the structure of the eye is preserved.

How Is It Done
In Epi-LASIK Singapore, the epithelial tissue is detached from the corneal tissue using a blunt separator. The separator doesn’t cut deeper into the layers of the cornea. After the epithelium is lifted, a laser is used to reshape the cornea. The epithelial tissue then restores naturally. The structural formation and parts of the cornea are never harmed nor changed.
In lasik, a sharp blade cuts through the epithelial tissue, down to the corneal tissue to create a flap. Then, the reshaping of the cornea with a laser is and the flap made is returned into its original place. The main problem of this Lasik in singapore procedure is that the most essential and strongest portion of the cornea is cut and thus affecting its structure and function. From a practical viewpoint, the cornea can heal itself but can never gain its original strength again. Furthermore, because the flap never heals completely it is subject to bulging and thinning (ectasia) and dislodgment as time goes by.

The Advantages
Both Epi-LASIK and LASIK has advantages. But for us to know why Epi-LASIK is said to be better than LASIK, here are their corresponding benefits that surgeons and clients experience before, during, and after these vision enhancement procedures.

Epi-Lasik
• Lesser dry eye problems
• Higher quality of vision
• Cornea is stronger after surgery
• Lesser possibility of serious flap complications during surgery
• No possibility of flap dislodgement after the surgery
• Lesser possible need for enhancement after surgery

lasik
• Quick recovery. Patient usually regain functional vision a day after surgery
• Less discomfort days after surgery

The Disadvantages
All things have their own down side too. Same with the advantages, both procedures have their own flaws which every Singapore patient may or may not encounter. These are not stated to discourage patients who want to have any of these vision enhancement procedures, but to inform you with the possible outcomes that you may have to face after the surgery.

Epi-LASIK
• Takes a couple of days longer to regain functional sight after surgery
• Slightly more discomfort a few days after surgery

LASIK
• Some patients experience thinning and bulging (ecstasia) of cornea over time. Though surgeons do screening for this, it’s still difficult to predict which patients have the highest possibility of developing this complication.
• Frequent dry eye problems
• High chances of epithelial ingrowth
• Cornea can’t regain its original strength anymore
• High chances of flap complications during surgery
• Greater chances of needing an enhancement after surgery in Singapore
